Signs that your septic system issue is an emergency
While a problem with your septic system is stressful, not all problems are considered an emergency. The following are signs that your system is failing and requires an emergency service:
- Foul smell – The first telltale sign of an emergency is a foul smell coming from your sink, showers, and pipes in your toilet. If you smell sewage in your home, call us right away before the problem worsens.
- Slow draining – If your bathtubs, sinks, and toilets are slow to drain or you notice bubbling when your toilet flushes, your system is likely clogged. A blockage can worsen and lead to sewage backup in your home, which is a serious health and safety problem.
- Leaking sewage – Standing water in your drain field or a foul smell around your drain field is an emergency. Sewage leaking on your property is a health and environmental issue and can lead to hefty fines if ignored.
We recommend installing a septic alarm if you don’t already have one. A septic alarm will notify you when the water level in your system rises. This allows you to act before the problem becomes urgent. You can and will save thousands of dollars in repairs and property damage if you have a septic alarm.
